What is Academic WorldQuest?

Academic WorldQuest 2010 will test students’ knowledge on international affairs, current events, the global economy, geography, world history, and general knowledge about the world.  Using a PowerPoint presentation, teams are asked 10 rounds of questions with each round consisting of 10 questions.

Who can play?
This is a team competition that is open to all Indiana high schools, but space is limited so be sure to register as soon as possible.

Teams consist of four high school students from the same school. The students can be freshman, sophomores, juniors, or seniors.  In order to allow as many schools as possible to participate, only one team per high school is permitted to enter the competition.

This event is offered at NO CHARGE and is open to teams of high school students and their accompanying teachers or chaperones.  Each team must have a chaperone – usually a teacher from the school.

Only one team will compete in the National Academic WorldQuest Competition.

How does the competition work?
Each school sends one team made up of four students.  The emcee then asks a question on foreign affairs, current events, geography, history, people in the news and cultures (The question is also projected on a screen).  Each team works cooperatively to come up with the correct answer.  The answers are collected and scored by a panel of judges.  Each team is given the opportunity to answer each question!  They are then graded on the number of questions they answer CORRECTLY!  The team with the highest score wins.

I’m with an organization that would like to contribute to students’ global education, can we sponsor the event?

Of course, there is a corporate sponsorship informational packet for you to read and send in your commitment.  Simply click here to find out more about sponsorship opportunity.

How do we form our team?

The selection method of the four team members is up to each high school.  Other states have found teammates from student clubs, such as Youth in Government, AFS, Debate, Model United Nations, Boys and Girls State and Language clubs, to be good sources of student interest.

How can we prepare for the competition?

The questions range from current events and newsmakers through geography and cultures. The categories are determined each year by the national World Affairs Council of America in
